How hard do you work? (And for how long?)

I’ll explain the question.

We start at 8, load up and off to the job.
We don’t necessarily fly into it, we figure out the smartest way and then get to it, but once we get going we work with real intensity, no frivolity, not much to say, just flat out.
10.30 tea break, back to it and we fly back into it to 12.30 ish.
After a short lunch the pace slows till 3 ish when under normal circumstances all meaningful work stops, load up and off. On the sofa at 4.30

I sort of burn brightly but burn out quickly, I can’t really work much past the mid afternoon, I give everything I have to the morning’s work, after that I’m all jelly legs and poor decisions.

I know I’m old, but I’ve always been that way.

Under normal situations how does your day play out energy wise, what time do you usually throw in the towel?

Usually out the door at 8 and back at 4ish, maybe later. I don't really take breaks (just for water)
I need 20/30 minutes just to look at the job afresh and form a revised plan.
I’m always telling my current hired man, who has a tendancy to walk about and generally ‘do stuff’ during breaks to sit the fuck down cos he’s ruining my break.

I work by myself and typical adjust on the fly. I'm in no way busting my ass and often will stop and stand or sit for a minute or two. So I guess those can be considered my breaks

Break? What’s that? I’m not sure I recognize that word…

I start about 6:30 Monday to Friday, and usually work until dark. One or two nights a week I’ll work in the shop on equipment maintenance until 10, and Saturdays I usually try to work not more than 6-8 hours.

I have no life, or hobbies, I just work, but I like my work, so I don’t usually mind.

At my current job during the busy season (april- early Dec)- start time 7, load up and head to jobsite, may get a couple water breaks if it's hot. Lunch around noon (usually- sometimes it's woof down a sandwich in the truck between jobs). End time depends on the day and scope of jobs, usually sometime between 5 - 6:30, earlier as it gets later in the year and we lose daylight. Steady productive pace is what's expected, but we definitely have bursts where we are really hustling.

At my previous job start time was 7:30, lunch around noon, usually done by 4-5. That was nice. Got paid thru lunch too.

Normally when I’m running my crew in Hood River we start at 8 and always try and have the guys off the clock by 4. We do paid lunches and we take breaks as needed. I want my team to have lives outside of work and energy to do the things they are passionate about.

When I’m contract climbing I typically leave home at 6:30 and get to the job at 8. If a job runs long I am typically packing gear by 4ish and then another 90+ minute commute home. Somehow I can do this for days on end and stay sane.

10 to 4:30 full bore.....water breaks as often as you need. No food. That is before and after work. 1 gatorade a day....some fruit occasionally on removals....
We start at 9 I thought that was late! Did 10 today for start time and it was hard to get in the flow. I suppose one gets used to it. It's nice to have time with the family before work I know that. I don't eat at work either, slows me down. One big meal when finished around 3 or 4. (y)

Yes I do kid drop off and then the prep gear ...do house chores ( variety daily ) and then leave to not drive in traffic, Barbados is very congested and traffic does my head in. I have a good breakfast and dinner. Never Lunch.

In CO a 30 minute paid lunch is required by law afaik. 2- 15 minute breaks as well iirc. Been awhile since I was in that realm, could be wrong. Sure as hell should be though!

I work to live. Not live to work. I plan on doing this a very long time so no rush. Lots of trees and treework here, I have built a good rep, so now I just keep my weeks full and roll....im live a good life here. Love my work and strive to be solid all around....a race for the steady....

Missing traffic is a huge advantage to the late start, casual breakfast with the family, nothing beats that. Luckily we got the bus to pick our kids up!

Family time dictates my schedule. I drop my son off at school for 8:15am and he has to be picked up from his after-school rock climbing gym no later than 5pm. So my work day is limited to those hours between. And I like to unload the truck and have a shower before getting him, so 4pm finish is my target.
