does anyone

You got it. making 300 a day for a climber that has to use crappy old equipment, be screamed at by the boss, use rigging gear that isn't suitable to tie my dog out with is a lot different than making 300 a day working for a high energy, well organized, well managed and equipped crew.

Money ain't everything. Adding to your list- A good team that wants to grow and incentives rewarding growth are worth a lot more than just good pay. (Of course, a growing team can be stagnated if there isn't room or reward for growth.) Most climbers are climbers because they wanted to grow beyond general labor and were willing to do what it took to get a chance in the saddle because they saw the rewards.

A big drain for this person is being surrounded by people who are okay with stagnation. People who don't want to better themselves usually resent motivated people and can find lots to complain about. One bad apple really can ruin the barrel. A company that primarily attracts this type of person has bigger issues, however, as such a phenomenon is usually a sign of stagnation in leadership.

So that's my lengthy x2, Royce.

In a couple days I'm sure we'll see a new help wanted add with everything he has to offer. I'm guessing it'll read something like this...
Tree Topper guy needed, will pay $325 per day!

Guessing that he tops trees based on his ads is a bit presumptuous, don't you think?
Absolutely! One of the outfits I sub for calls his climbers topping guys. Don't know if he tops trees or not as I basically only do the difficult removals for him. Anyway, I've seen several of treemans posts yet still know nothing about his business or much about him. Hoping he takes some of Royces great advices and lets us all know why someone should come work for him, until then all I can do is assume and crack a couple jokes.

@treeman1640, Are you hearing this? I know you've said a little bit in the past about what kind of work you were looking to hire someone for, but not too much, really.

Why be so reluctant to talk about what kind of operation you run, and what kind of gear you generally work with? Is it fear of thieves, or some kind of embarrassment at being a fairly small operation? There is no shame in being small.

Having the ability to provide work for even a few people is a huge deal, and one you should be proud of.

With regard to the climber that you are looking for, what kind of equipment are you expecting him or her to bring to the game? Climbing gear only, and you provide all of the rigging gear, I would hope?

I think if you follow Royce's advice and fill in some details, you would, as he said, generate more responses. I know some folks write better than others, but I don't ever recall anyone being mean to you for the way that you write. We just want you to write more, and to stop keeping everything about you so close to your own vest.

Why not?

Tim

Did I miss an ad somewhere? I don't ever remember him advertising topping. And to his credit, I happen to know that he doesn't.

@Crimsonking, Hey, Crimsonking! The implication of your post is that you personally know or have worked with treeman1640. Is that the case? If so, can you give us a hint as to why he seems reluctant to talk much about himself, or would even talking about that seem like a violation of trust, for some reason? I'm the guy who doesn't get it, sometimes.

@treeman1640, Why is it that you can respond to Crimsonking's post in which he defends your honor, but neither Royce nor I appear to warrent any response whatsoever, after we have both spent a good deal of time and energy composing what I feel are thoughtful posts?

It's beginning to feel like contempt, to me. Why no answers?
