Wanted: Trained Throwbag Dog

I am seriously considering making one, that or an APTA. I spent an hour trying to isolate a crotch in the top of an oak, and then another hour trying to get my throwbag down, it finally snapped loose and flew off down the hill somewhere in those leaves. Now I gotta go back out today with a blower and see if I can uncover it.
Only $20 worth of parts, but took me a couple hours to make so there is some sentimental value as well.

Ya oaks can be tricky because they have the small little branches growing off the trunk and leads. I was in the same boat last week. Line and ball kept getting tangled in them, not going high enough, etc. etc. Eager to try this out. Tired of spending that much time trying to get a climbing line in a tree when it takes less time to actually perform the work lol.

Not even embarrassed to talk about having trouble throwing it in the right crotch. ;)

Ha, Polo! I am finding that my accuracy and range is better if I face away from the tree and sling the throwbag from between my legs, over and behind me.
Still, after 2 hours of fighting it Saturday, and then having the bag sling off and get lost, I just went back inside and made a sandwich.
Time to revive my Cross shot idea (crossbow/slingshot).

I haven't picked up my BS since getting my APTA.

Weaver 12 oz. Notch 12 oz bags fit nicely, are touch, and way cheaper than going to buy $20 in parts, and build time.

I've been hand throwing a lot lately, as I've not been aiming more than 60'. Found a trick from someone, somewhere. When you are going to cradle throw between your legs, you push a bight of throwline through the ring, and have three legs. I have been doing this, but throwing single-handed.

A loop on the bottom is nice to clip, or push a rope through and tie a stopper, if running in a wide open crotch. 1/2" doesn't fit in the bottom of a Notch bag that I've got.

Harrison Rockets or go home :)

More seriously, one of those bluetooth tags for your keychain would be good inside a throwbag. Lose it, whip out your phone and go hunting.

I was going to say the same thing. They even make a beeping sound when you ping them. I’m sure they could make something more fitting for a throw bag. But how often do people have it come off the line?

Losing mine was a fluke I'm going to try to not replicate. My throw line hit the target crotch and then slipped through a tiny sucker further up. When I pulled my line up, I could not get it past the small crotch so I put the bag back on to see if I could use the weight to break through.

Of course the bag wrapped around and then both lines were stuck and I couldn't even bounce it loose. So I setup a quick MA rig on another tree and gave my climbing line a yank.

The bag popped off when I wasn't watching and flew somewhere down a steep incline.

Do you think the ring broke on the bag?
