Seeking Full Time Arborist

QUALIFICATIONS

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:

High School Degree or equivalent with at least two years of practical experience, training, trade or work related course work that evidences and verifies climbing and aerial lift experience pruning and felling mature sized trees and associated urban forestry skills.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: current urban forestry methods, practices, and equipment; safety practices; sprayer and other pesticide application equipment.

Ability to: Exhibit good problem solving and good judgement in keeping with the mission of the park district; maintain confidential and sensitive information; understand and demonstrate respect for cultural and socio-economic differences; support a working atmosphere consistent with Great Parks’ equal employment opportunity; embrace and support constructive change; consistently follow safety and security procedures and practices; contribute toward building a positive team working environment; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, officials, general public, and other job contacts. Perform manual work for extended periods of time; understand and follow general instructions; utilize office computers for email, tracking work, making documents and preparing GIS maps. Use of tablet to locate trees in the field, cooperate and functionally lead co-workers on group projects.

Skill in: operation of job-related equipment; application of pesticides; handling objects of varying weight; communication of job-related information and findings.
