Please help to ID tree

Smooth leaves in group of 9 leaves. Leaves are smooth. Looks to be alternating but I need to confirm. Air pollinated, and has not provided fruit in the last three years.

that is what I had in mind...but without my saying so, yeah, most would probably read that as a cross section rather than lengthwise cut.

Update with more pictures. Pith has Chambers, leaves are alternating. Thank you for your responses.

Thanks Kingfurook for the images! That's part of what we try to do here, to get folks to pay attention to what the diagnostic characteristics are. Often, the ID is then an easy call, based on readily available evidence as with this one, with alternating branching pattern plus a chambered pith. Often what constitutes an effective expert, is simply knowing which characteristics lead to a definitive ID.
