our 23 ton crane flipped on wednesday, just trying to move wood around a yard , no tree picking. We set the crane up on proper cribbing and when the boom was raised the passenger side outrigger went into a sinkhole and the crane flopped. Everyone cries about the ball and tying into it but I always say the rig is only as good as the ground it is is sitting on.We got lucky no damage, the crane went down slowly like a dinasour going to bed . just sunk in mud. Never thought I be running for my life on the street cause a crane boom is falling. Too close for comfort.Three tow trucks ( big ones) and a 80 ton crane , 7 hrs. and 2 thousand dollars later the truck was upright. So how was your wednesday?

You still have some hair on your head? That would be pretty weird and scary if you ask me. I'm glad that you finally ran the right way Riggs /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif I can't imagine that hasppening while swinging a log over a climber's head- woH!

cmon now Roach , you know thats me . Crazy thing is, only the chipper light was damaged . Took the crane to the dealer and the only thing wrong was we lost 20 gallons of hydraulic fluid . Didn't even scratch the mirror. Think rigging a tree is hard , try standing one of those things back up , it was a project . It took so long to stand up because we didn't want to damage the crane. I've done a dozen jobs with that crane since and I still can't believe it was on it's side. I was on the street and didn't realize it was falling , so I when I saw it falling I had to out run the boom which was up 88 ft., cable flipping on the ground , missed me by ten to fifteen feet. All the crane jobs I've done in my life I almost bought it standing on a street . The only other major crane accident I had was with a 80 ton crane about 10yrs ago, and the operator made the pick , lost control of his boom , just missed me with the poplar lead I just cut , and dropped the boom on a neighbors tree .The operator said the computer shut down , what an a-hole. Just another day at work .....

nope wasnt quite sure care of trees sent the pics.Funny thing is I was only a mileor so away doing a major beech when our operator got wind of your crane going down he gor really nervous.
