What the?! Ouch!! What exactly was the mechanism of injury here, and how?

Almost looks like one of those tattoo sleeve wraps that were popular in the 90s… thinking tribal/barb wire look.My guess is the saw wasn't running at the time, or chain brake locked.
Clearing trees and brush that had grown through a chain link fence. Loose soil on a slight embankment and the ground slide a bit while cutting. Saw grabbed the fence and rolled right back at me. I can't remember if it was hand or inertia brake, but either way the chain was stopped. Still, a sharp chain with as much force as you see in the video above. It caught just below my t-shirt sleeve, otherwise I don't think the damage would have been quite as dramatic. That was just over 11 years ago. The scars are a great icebreaker. What the?! Ouch!! I'll add that it didn't really hurt much more than getting punched in the arm a little hard. I ripped a piece of my shirt off to wrap it up and kept working.
