Nearly decapitated.

Reg once commented its not just proper technique on what you're cutting but also knowing what's nearby - perhaps behind what you're cutting so you don't immediately see it.

What the?! Ouch!! What exactly was the mechanism of injury here, and how?
Clearing trees and brush that had grown through a chain link fence. Loose soil on a slight embankment and the ground slide a bit while cutting. Saw grabbed the fence and rolled right back at me. I can't remember if it was hand or inertia brake, but either way the chain was stopped. Still, a sharp chain with as much force as you see in the video above. It caught just below my t-shirt sleeve, otherwise I don't think the damage would have been quite as dramatic. That was just over 11 years ago. The scars are a great icebreaker.

I'll add that it didn't really hurt much more than getting punched in the arm a little hard. I ripped a piece of my shirt off to wrap it up and kept working.

Glad you were ok overall. Is that what it looks like today, 11 years later?
