Ran up on this today. The company my son is working for is doing this removal today. The trunk, limbs and root crown scream Red Maple but the leaves are wrong. Little help please.

It’s not a slightly odd Box Elder is it? They’re technically a Maple, Acer Negundo, and I’ve seen them with leaves that look more and less maple-like than others.

More photos of trunk wood. Not Box Elder. Wood smells like Red Maple. Leaf petioles are red/pink. Intermodal growth is consistantle a ont 3/4 to 1 inch per year. Buds can be clustered. I am leaning toward a natural cross between Red Maple and Trident Maple.

I would call that a red maple for sure. maybe a super weird/ not well know cultivar or cross. I really like those leaves, though.

The leaves in the photos are only 1.25 to 1.75 inches long. About 1/4 the size of a Box Elder leaf. The leaf size is another reason why I'm stumped.

Very interesting find Oldoakman!

I recently took down an Oak that I believe to be a cross between a White Oak and a Chestnut Oak. The bark was closer to White Oak, while the leaves were more Chestnut looking.
