A Life With Trees LLC is hiring. We would love to find someone who wanted to work close to full time or full time. This town has a lot of outdoor recreation options. Whitewater kayaking/rafting, fishing, snow sports, mountain and road biking. A mere hour to Portland for the more sophisticated activities, or head to the hills nearby to go for a hike or visit a winery.

As far as work goes, we try and keep things safe, fun, and use the best tools and equipment to keep the work as efficient as possible.

Ideally I would find someone rather new to the industry who would want to apprentice with me and learn the trade. But I am open to all skill levels joining our team.

Starting wage $20 for entry level. Double that is possible if you are a top notch climber. Raises will closely follow your level of skill development and motivation.

We are also open to visitors who want to try us out and check out the area. Hit me up!

If Steve brought that beautiful machine to the northwest (specifically Portland) it would work as many hours and days a week as he could handle. In that market with hundreds of tree services there are only maybe 2 companies who own their own cranes and nobody operating a decent sized knuckleboom. In a city of that size with the huge range in species diversity and a target rich environment I’m shocked that nobody is running a decent sized Treemek. Whoever has the balls (and the finances) to do a similar operation to what Steve is doing in the Portland market will likely be very successful. After going to Virginia, spending a week with Steve, and running the numbers, there was no doubt in my mind that it would pencil out and be hugely successful. The main reasons I didn’t do it was because I live 90 minutes from Portland and didn’t want to do that drive daily and for some reason brutalizing my body climbing trees every day seems like more fun that craning my neck and running a remote.

There are many days I think I'd be happier going back to being in the trees. My body and spirit miss it.

Our area is about to get walloped by an ice storm. Hood River is currently at 1 degrees with a huge amount of precipitation on the way. On top of that we are currently cleaning up from a huge windstorm in Portland. If anyone is interested in making a move to the northwest or just want to check it out, this is a good time to consider doing it. We are. It’s kind of nuts. In our town we might get close to an inch of ice accumulation. Just depends on temps when the storm hits and what form the precipitation takes.

Hiring for a lead climber as one of our crew leads is moving to pursue another opportunity. Looking for a certified arborist that loves to do all types of tree work with a great team.

We typically work 4 days a week Monday through Thursday so plenty of time to do all the fun things here in the gorge.
