Chestnut?

Growing in the crotch of my large silver maple. 5 coarse toothed leaves, woody sapling stem. Is it a chestnut?

I would concur with Virginia Creeper. Look for a vine that looks somewhat similar to a less-hairy poison Ivy vine.

Yep, Virginia creeper. Although American chestnuts are around. I did some timber stand improvement in the Daniel Boone forest in Kentucky a few years ago and we saw a good few of them out there. Never bigger than 30 ish feet though

Definitely Virginia creeper. You will see American Chestnut come up as old stump sprouts before the blight kills them after a few years. There are a few exceptions that make it to maturity but not many.
