What do the freelancers out there do for health benefits, workers comp., business insurance, etc.? When you sub, do you develop written agreements with the contractors?

I try to float my own boat most of the time, but I do sub on occasion. Carry, commercial liabilty, short term disabilty, long term dis., we have OHIP for hospital stuff. My dental, perscription I get via my wife's package.
I've never set a formal agreement with any of the contractors, but I won't drive their trucks, and if I think something is dodgy I protest, if I'm ignored I disappear to a different part of the project. Basically I try to prevent situations where I could be sued.
