The backbone of my climbing system

Climbed as you explained yesterday. Sure do get round the canopy a lot easier. Plus I got to use my zigzag again. Man I love that thing. I can't wait to move around a wide canopy tree with the second system. I have a single 100' line I may use for retrieval as when I came down yesterday the bdb and ZZ were tight against each other. Had to stand on 1 foot to get off my line. Used up the entire 160' and it wasn't a very tall tree. Lots of line wasted on the retrieval leg.

On the final descent, depending on where I have been or even if I am in the middle of a traverse and I want to get down, (for whatever reason) I will come down on the SRT side if planned or very worse scenario, DdRT, releasing and recovering the SRT leg. In the case of the 160' line, I should be good for any height to 80' (worst case). That is what is nice, when I'm on the DdRT leg, that IS the recovery side of the SRT line.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. Would you recommend this as a first timer set up? Canopy anchor to start or should I be focused on basal?
For me this system seems it would work well with my level of experience...
Great Stuff man!!

Ahhh, the ol' basal anchor vs. canopy anchor.........that is really a complex question that I think applies more to the circumstances and not so much climber experience.
I think I would say it is very much like the SRT vs. DdRT debate. I prefer not to choose just one but use them both. Sometimes start with a base anchor and convert it to a canopy anchor.
Personalty, if I find myself only using one method all or most of the time...... I've left a lot of tools home in the shed.

Really nice Richard, I haven't been able to picture your description but now I've got it clear as anything. I will use this.
Spring has sprung early here in portland, i think I missed you last year but I'd live to climb again when you make it out this way!
Take care

We will have some great climbs on the West Coast this year!
Chris showed me a great tree, he said it had my name on it so I will have to climb to the very top and see if I can find it. ;)
