Sena Jog Dial Protector Prototype

Reach

Been here much more than a while
Location
Atglen, PA
We have become tired of always bumping out with the Sena sets, so we are in the process of prototyping a bump guard for the jog dial to cut down on accidental tap-outs. We’ve had a set in use for several months now and it has worked very well, so now it’s time for some opinions before we start producing them for sale.

Who would be interested in buying such a thing, and how much would you be willing to pay for one? Please share your thoughts and opinions, and hopefully we will have a version for sale very soon.

The design we have is simple, but looks like it belongs in place. Very easy to install, in only a moment and seems to stay in place and hold up to careless and clueless ground hands as well as climbers in every tree we’ve been in over the past several months.

I’m in! One of my guys is constantly doing it, or losing the radio outright, ya don’t ask! Let us know more when you can!

I will definitely be posting more soon, at this point we have a very functional prototype, just trying to find a better plastic to make it stronger, but still flexible enough it won’t break. PM me your address and I just might send you a prototype version to try out, see if it works as well for you as it has for us.

I will be your first customer. I’ll take four please. Assuming of course that I can afford them. I hate when someone bumps out and then starts pushing buttons and gets us all f’ed up.

I sent u a pm

Great to see this.
I tried to get my friend Walter, who makes the hitchhiker holster, to make them out of Kydex. Made a mold and a prototype that needed refining and sent it to him. My concept was a little velcro on the flange to keep it there For whatever reason, probably because to do them right would require a vacuum system, he chose not to do it.

Interesting idea, too bad it never happened, but I’m not complaining too much because that gave us the opportunity to build one! Ours is attached more permanently, so it can’t be lost and will be more rigid than a Velcro version. We are 3D printing right now, but looking into having them injection molded to cut costs and increase production.

Printing in TPU or something else?

The MOQ to make injection molding cheaper per unit is usually the prohibiting factor. TPU should be more than enough protection, I have a TPU protector for my Gopro, Otterbox phone cases have a TPU outer shells iirc. The stuff is indestructible!

Yes, the question is how many do we have to make to get costs down to a reasonable level. There’s a local startup Amish molding shop here and I know the owner’s cousin, so that should be worth something because in the Amish community referrals are worth a lot, but I haven’t had the time to go there yet to see what they can do for us.

Right now we are printing with PLA, which is cheap and easy to print, so it’s been the go-to for prototypes. However it’s not terribly strong, and it deforma at about 140 degrees, which is problematic for those who leave their gear in hot trucks, so we are trying to print a round with ABS, which will be much stronger and more heat tolerant. Its just more cantankerous to print with.
