New Kask Plasma helmet

Just before Christmas I got a Plasma helmet from Kask. There are some improvements I see. When I get back to work after New Years I'll give it a test run. Then I'll be able to tell the differences.

Eugene has about a dozen of the Plasma helmets in the field for testing. I expect that some of the other Helmet Heads will post too.

If there are things that you want to see on the new helmet, please post. Some changes can be made even this late in the game.

Loving my new helmet!!

It is now called the Kask Super Plasma

-The foam inside has been changed to allow more air in, and its working great.
-They have changed all the padding to wool, with a 2XDry technology to help in wicking.
-They have added Polygiene anti odor to the padding and foam to keep the stink away (not sure how well this works as its winter and I have a winter cap on).
-Chin strap is now leather, and is also longer.
-Newly designed muff attachments.
-New visor.
-New Visor attachment screws.
-Up N Down technology for the rear adjustment area, this is taken from their cycling helmets and is a much needed improvement! Way more comfy.
-You can also push the rear adjustment tight, as well as use the know to tighten.
-The shell is a slightly different design to add more protection.

So far so good, time will tell.

Great, glad I was an early adopter and bought a piece of crap for a big sticker price. Let's see, if I buy ANOTHER Kask I can send mine back to get it fixed, no wait, the warranty will probably be done by then. Screw Kask.

now hold on Blinky, I thought Kask said that if your current kask helmet had problems, you could send it back and they would send you a new one.

so... when the super plasma is released, shouldn't we be able to send back our defective kask and they will replace it?

Or, are they timing it so that the warranty will no longer be good for when the new kask comes out?

I would imagine that if they are a good company, they will set things right with past customers by allowing us to mail in our defective helmets and they will replace them.

Kask has always made a Super Plasma.

Seems like the US maybe only ever got the basic Plasma Work from the start....they are a few $ cheaper than the Super.

I spent ~$160 on the Kask and the liner came loose a few months later, From what I heard, you send a helmet back and wait a long time for an identical replacement. So what then, I buy ANOTHER helmet just to use while they get their act together? I can't afford that.

You can call me stupid for giving my Vertex to a young climber if you want but bottom line, I can't send it back without a lot of trouble.

Did they not test the damn helmet in the field before putting it into production? What about those stupid brackets that don't even fit? They STILL don't have hearing protection worked out. WTF?

The visor's really great too... if you like staring through sawdust all day, because whatever coating is on the inside of it attracts and holds dust. It has to be cleaned with soap and water, you can't just wipe it off.

All in all, the Kask was the worst money I've spent on tree gear. I won't even be able to sell the piece of crap when i get a new Vertex.

Bad form bashing a company before you know there stance. Kask is standing behind their products very well.....and unlike other Italian companies, IMPROVING their products and listening to the customers.

I wonder if the dryer meditteranean climate might have something to do with the foam. Maybe as tested in Italy it holds up fine, but in the humid US it might not. Im going to wait for the new product before i return mine.

I thought this was the RANT and rave forum

Yes I'm making assumptions... based on recent experience. That's not bad form, it's human nature,it's how we kept ourselves safe over the eons and it works the vast majority of the time... a lot more often than companies do the right thing by their customers. It's a fair assumption until KASK proves otherwise.

Please prove me wrong, I would like nothing more. I've been wrong millions of times and it won't disturb my ego to be wrong again... but I want proof, not talk. I have no interest in KASK one way or the other, I'm just pissed because I got ripped off.

Perhaps everyone would know where KASK stands if they published a statement. Otherwise, it sounds like you have to work in a shop to know anything... you're the only source of Kask info I know of.

How long have we been waiting for helmet brackets that fit? You call that responsive? We use chainsaws and work around chippers... hearing pro isn't optional and I'm sick of trying to keep up with foam plugs. Last I heard, from you I think, they were supposed to be coming but still, nothing.

If it was a cheap consumer helmet no problem, but the Kask is sold as premium professional gear with a big price so I don't think my expectation is over the top. They should've been on the liner problem like white on rice and instead, their solution is to have us buy a new, more expensive helmet a year later? Kask must be run by former Microsoft people.

Sending a helmet back for weeks isn't an option for a lot a folks. Maybe I'm just whiner and all you guys make a lot more money than me, maybe they stand behind their stuff really nice when you have a shop in your back yard but for me, it sucks. I paid ~$160 for that stupid hat and I can't wait to toss it.

Boston, they are only shipping out the old style helmets to those who complained about the foam breaking out. Blinky isn't wrong on that part.

When they sent me my replacement it was the older model, I called and talked to a sales rep and was told that they hadn't screwed up but that was indeed the helmet they were using to replace my old helmet that fell apart. I then asked if I could sent it back in after a few months when it has the same exact problems as the other one did and they said that I can send it in only up until the warranty expires onthe original helmet I bought, not the new helmet they sent.

Awesome.

Also, Blinkys situation is dead on about what to do for a helmet while the helmet is shipped out. I had to spend even more money on yet another helmet to use while waiting for Kask to give me my "new and improved" helmet. I waited 2 months just for the to send me THE SAME EXACT DEFECTIVE STYLED HELMET!

I spent a ton of money on that helmet, two visors, winter liner, the works and I can't wait to put a Petzl on my head come spring

Got me the new Kask and I love it!

It looks like Kask went the extra mile on the foam fix. The visor is awesome and the muffs swapped over from my old Rockman just fine. I also dig the winter liner, very comfortable and warm too.

I'll report back here once I get some more miles on it.

New ear muff attachments, slide under the lip and attach with 1 screw. Bombproof they say.

New muff attachments and side view of visor attachments. Visor is bigger and slightly different shape, not as much dust blows under it for me anymore. Another view of that leather chinstrap here too.
