Howdy,

Has anyone ever heard of Kentucky coffeetree being dangerous to burn? Any responses appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

KY Coffeetree has approximately 21 million BTU's per cord, making it a good firewood (similar to green ash). The leaves and seed pods are poisonous, but not the wood. Still, I wouldn't use it to smoke any food.

Very nice answer Chris,...........I've never heard anything about the wood being bad to burn either.

I belive the heat denatures the protein or enzyme or what ever it is that makes it poisonous. The seeds where used for coffee (hence the name), and the heat is what made it ok to drink.
