SRT= a lot of tension in the line, which tends to lead to rope deformity in my experience. It seems weird at first but you'll get used to it. Flake that rope into your bag and forget about it.
Also: Get a proper rope wrench.

Try flipping the spine of the device around (the bit with the hole for a tending attachment) to create a bit more friction, like the baby bump mod for the rope runner. It helped me run on some new small diameter rope that was really slick.
